Since COVID19 hit, Local H have been off the road and streaming as much content
online as possible. They released a brand new record in April ("LIFERS") and have
yet to play an actual show in front of fans to promote it. The idea of playing a
"drive in" concert was brought up and they went with it. The show sold out so
fast they added a 2nd night and that sold out as well! Everyone had their own
space with their vehicle to sit (or stand) and social distancing was in place
throughout the entire venue. Everyone wore masks to the concessions, merch or
bathrooms. It went incredibly well! The band projected their own film clips
on the giant screen above and ran a separate feed of a stage shot to screen #2
on the other side of the lot. The band took the stage at 830pm sharp. There were
no openers. There was bad weather in the area (that by the stroke of luck went
a few miles north), so the start time was moved up. This was a 29 song set that
lasted nearly 3 hours. From what I heard, the rain started in Gibson City 30
seconds after the last truck was loaded around 1245am. Grateful. "8:46" made
its live debut. An instrumental, the band pounded away at the extended jam
as the time ran on the large screen above paying tribute to George Floyd.
On the recording, I ran 2 separate rigs simultaneously capturing the audience
as well as the FM feed. While they both sounded "decent" separately, together
they sounded fantastic. It was a bit of work to matrix both together, but
in the end, it was the right thing to do. During night 2, with the bad weather
in the area - we did experience some wind. It did die down considerably by
showtime, but you will hear some phasing during some songs. Because of this,
I did mix the FM feed slightly higher than I did for night 1. The shows do sound
pretty identical, but thats the reason why there is a slight difference. Had the
wind stayed at 25mph (as it was when we arrived), there would be no audience
tape at all! It was THAT bad! Please enjoy and share with as many fans as you can.
Live music will return and will persevere. This is just the beginning.
